History

Our parent, Florida Christian University, is an educational organization founded on August 29, 1985, under the name Florida Theological Seminary. Established in Orlando, Florida, the institution was the culmination of a lifelong goal and aspiration of the founder and late President, Rev. Dr. Harold L. Shindoll.

For the first years, degree programs were limited to classroom instruction for students from greater Orlando. Soon, however, Dr. Shindoll was sharing his vision with people for new directions and a new outreach. As the educational institution was growing, enrollment interest was coming from various parts of the country.

Then the instruction portion of each course started to be given via video, audio, or via proctored direction. Soon, inquiries began to come from people all around the world desiring learning. The outreach vision was a dream that was starting to come true.

As the outreach vision of the seminary has been expanded to the global reach vision, the educational institution became Florida Christian University. Since then, the institution has been more and more committed to edifying the global reach, apostolic, interdenominational, five-fold ministry. Numerous new students have been enrolling, as a result of the ever-increasing realization of the great need for proper education, training, and spiritual development.  However, we still give diplomas, at the students’ request, with the name “Florida Theological Seminary” on them.

Now, with College of America, our parent, Florida Christian University, opens a new opportunity for our students. This new institution was created to grant select degree programs for those students who are looking for academic degrees that are not limited to the Christian vocation and may also help them with their lives, work and possible future graduate studies.
